Analysis: Macchia was one of the top freshmen in the country last year as she competed in a handful of invitationals and earned titles along the way.
At the state NYSPHSAA Class A New York Cross Country Championships, she finished ninth overall.
Heading into the postseason, she was second at the Eastbay Northeast Regional meet and was 12th at the championship, finishing as the top underclassman. She will return this season as the fourth fastest competitor.
Her season continued as she earned a gold medal at the Nike Indoor Nationals in the two-mile with a personal best of 10:17 and a seventh-place finish in the mile at New Balance Nationals Indoor.
During the outdoor season, she was second at the Trials of Miles: Track Night NYC in the high school mile with a lifetime best of 4:47.47. She also earned a silver medal at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor in the two-mile with a lifetime best and a US No. 10 performance of 10:08.50.
