The Weekend Rundown: Loudoun Valley Lives Up To The Hype In First Meet

Danny Kilrea Is Destroying 3-Mile Courses In Illinois

Lyons Township (Illinois) High's Danny Kilrea has set himself up nicely, and it's just September.

With his blistering 3-mile course record of 14:02.30 at the First to the Finish Invitational on Saturday at Detweiller Park in Peoria, Kilrea not only ran a new U.S. No. 1 time at the distance, but he also logged the 19th-fastest performance since 2000 -- this according to our stats database.

A year ago, Armijo (California) High's Luis Grijalva set the fastest 3-mile effort overall, going 13:58.00 at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic, but that time, and even Illinois's all-time best of 13:50.60 -- last achieved by Craig Virgin in 1972 -- seem in reach for Kilrea.

Kilrea is currently ranked No. 3 in the Flo50 national rankings.
