9/20 High School XC Weekend Recap

Oatlands Invitational (VA)

September 20, 2014 Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, VA

US #11 ranked Andrew Hunter ran one of the fastest times ever at Oatlands Plantation's hilly 5K course with a decisive 15:21 win at Saturday's Oatlands Invitational in Leesburg, Virginia. The defending Virginia 3A state champ Hunter was 34 seconds ahead of the runner-up finisher Evan Woods (15:55) of Walt Whitman High School in Maryland.

Another national star could be coming out of Loudoun County in Heritage freshmen Weini Kelati, a native of Eritrea, who despite having to stop to tie her shoe twice in the race, still found the time to win the girls race in an incredible time of 18:12 on the challenging Oatlands Plantion course layout. Kelati's name will be one to remember over the next years. Finishing a distance runner-up was 2013 West Virginia state runner-up Abby Colbert of Jefferson High School in a time of 18:44.
