National Records Galore at Indoor Nationals
---
The 2025 indoor track and field season concluded with Nike Indoor Nationals and New Balance Nationals Indoor, and the nation's top athletes left their mark on history. This year's championships saw multiple national high school records fall, with electrifying performances that pushed the limits of speed, endurance, and teamwork.
Boys
Bullis School delivered a historic and dominant performance in the New Balance Nationals Indoor boys 4x400m relay, shattering the national high school record with a 3:09.44 finish-the first-ever sub-3:10 indoor performance in history. The squad of Cameron Homer, Alexander Lambert, Colin Abrams, and Quincy Wilson not only defended Bullis' title but obliterated the previous national and meet record of 3:11.87 from 2024.
Tate Taylor of Harlan High School in Texas made history in the boys indoor 200m final at Nike Indoor Nationals, delivering an astonishing performance that saw him drop from a season-best time of 21.09 seconds entering the meet to an impressive 20.46 seconds. His stunning 0.63-second improvement not only secured him the win but also set a new national record, eclipsing the previous mark of 20.48 seconds set by Issam Asinga at the 2023 New Balance Nationals Indoor. Taylor's breakthrough time also shattered multiple records, including the Armory High School meet record of 20.63 seconds, previously held by Noah Lyles in 2016. Additionally, Taylor's performance broke the junior record of 20.62 seconds, which was set by Jaylen Slade in 2021.
Archbishop Carroll (DC) made history once again in the boys 4x200m relay at New Balance Nationals Indoor, breaking their own national record for the third time this season with a blistering time of 1:24.37. They are now the first high school team to ever run under 1:25 indoors. The team of Elijah Amenra, Niles Briggman, Keenen Davis, and Jake Odey-Jordan has been rewriting the record books all year. They first set the record at The VA Showcase with a time of 1:25.21, lowered it to 1:25.15 at the Millrose Games, and now have completely shattered it again at New Balance Nationals.
Girls
Bullis School made some more history in the girls' 4x400m relay at New Balance Nationals Indoor with a commanding victory, setting a new high school national record and meet record with a time of 3:35.54. This remarkable performance shattered the previous meet record of 3:38.18 and the national record of 3:37.63, both set by Montverde Academy in 2024. Although Bullis trailed by a narrow margin after the first leg, they quickly took control of the race. Tatum Lynn led off with a solid 55.57, placing her team in second but only 0.4 seconds behind the leader. Kennedy Brown followed with an impressive 53.30, pushing Bullis into the lead by 1 second at the 800m mark. Morgan Rothwell extended the lead to 3 seconds with a strong 53.70 third leg, and Sydney Sutton, anchoring with the fastest split of 52.96, sealed the victory. By the time she crossed the finish line, Bullis had built a commanding 7-second advantage over the runner-up.
IMG Academy made history at the New Balance Nationals Indoor by setting a new all-time indoor national record in the Girls 4x800m Championship, finishing in 8:46.04. The team, consisting of Anyla Robinson, Aurora Bertelsen Del Solar, Mackenzie Winning, and Danielle Graham, shattered the previous indoor record of 8:48.02, set by Cuthbertson High School in 2023.
Jane Hedengren continues to redefine high school distance running, delivering a historic performance at the 2025 Nike Indoor Nationals by smashing the national high school indoor 5K record with a jaw-dropping time of 15:13.26. The previous mark of 15:28.90, set by Elizabeth Leachman in March 2024, stood for just over a year before Hedengren obliterated it with her relentless pace and endurance. This performance also marks a new U20 American record and places her 13th this year for the event at the senior level for American women.
