BOYS

800 Meter Run

21 boy's went sub-2:00 last week. Two went sub-1:55. None were better than Belen senior Joseph Socarras, who made an early season statement running a 1:51.45. He made it look easy and sub-1:50 is just around the corner. Socarras has a PR of 1:51.32, which he ran last year at his 3A district meet. He leads the returners in the 1600 rankings with a 4:04.53. The only sub-1:50, sub-4:00 by an athlete in Florida came in 2022 when Nease's Rheinhardt Harrison ran a 1:48.05 and a 3:57.94 converted 1600m.

Joining Socarras under 1:55 was Daniel Reyes of Spanish River, who led the field at the Louie Bing Invitational with a 1:54.84 PR.  Reyes led 8 other boys at Louie Bing to sub-2:00's.  Reyes's previous best was a 1:57.45 4th place finish last May at the Superfly Athletics Meet of Champions by PUMA.

Last spring, Florida had 187 boys go sub:2:00 in the 800.

Ten boys went under 4:25, and three were under 4:20, led by Marcelo Mantecon of Belen. The sophomore demonstrated why he was the best in the state in XC, running a 4:15.28 in his outdoor opener. His PR is 4:10.88 that he ran in a third-place finish in last year's 3A state meet. Just behind him in that race was another freshman, Andrew Beroset of Gulf Breeze in 4:11.27. Bersoset has yet to run this outdoor campaign but ran a Florida #1 All-Time 8:21.77 indoor 3,000m at the Boston Univ. John Thomas Terrier Classic a few weeks ago.

Levi Lee of Poinciana ran a 4:17.37 at the Hawks Relays. It's not listed below (?), but the senior has been running well so far after a 13th place 4:23.38 finish in last years 4A state finals.

Dillard senior Joshua Gammage had an impressive win at the Louie Bing Invitational, running a 4:17.37. Gammage doubled, finishing second in the 3200 with a 9:34.73. Gammage was 9th in last years 3A state finals and has a 4:15.42 to his credit.
