Charlize-Trinity McKenzie, Cedarburg (Wisc.): McKenzie ran a U.S. #4 time in the 800m, finishing with a time of 2:10.25 and winning by over 14 seconds at the Louisville Indoor Games. She is just one of 7 girls under 2:11 this season and has now run under 2:11 in two straight races.
Shamrock Thoun, Woonsocket (R.I.): Since the second week of December, Thoun has picked up 10 consecutive wins in the weight throw, with his most recent win coming at the RITCA Invitational in Providence, Rhode Island. Thoun came out on top of a field full of 43 athletes, winning by almost three feet. The junior's best mark of the day was 79-0.5, which is his third best throw of the year.
Hannah Rae Shaffer, Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.): Is there any better way to open up your season than by running your fastest 3200m time in a year and a half? I can imagine that the North Carolina-bound senior would say there is not! At the Governor's Classic in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Shaffer clocked 10:30.3 as she picked up the win, pulling away from the field by over 15 seconds. She also broke her own meet record by 21 seconds and is now the fifth-fastest in state history. She currently sits at No. 1 on the national leaderboard.
Zachary Tamale, Buford (Ga.): Tamale set a new U.S. #1 mark in the triple jump at the Bama Showcase where he finished with a mark of 50' 3.25" to become the first boy over 50 feet this season and to jump over 50 feet for the first time ever. This was a PR by about 3 and a half feet for Tamale.
