Caleb Tofteland Wins Big, Holcomb Snags Title
That marks the third year in a row that a Trinity Academy Knight has pulled in the Boys 3A individual victory, but 2024 was the first time it wasn't Clay Shively. Senior Caleb Tofteland put a 16-second gap between himself and the field over the race's final mile, crossing in 15:36, 16 seconds ahead of runner-up Brody Deniston (Holcomb).
Wichita Collegiate senior Will Meyer was third in 15:57, while Lakin's Alex Luce (15:59) and Austin Ritsema (16:08) took fourth and sixth.
West Franklin's Hunter Bailey broke up the Lakin duo, taking fifth in 16:03.
After winning the team title on the track this past spring, Deniston and the Holcomb Longhorns won it all on the grass. With Landen Leonard and Jeb Stoppel taking 8th and 13th, it was simply too much to overcome for the other contenders.
Southeast of Saline and Trinity Academy finished second and third, with the final tally coming to 58-79-92.
This was Holcomb's first state title since 2009, and their fourth since 2000.
