17. Buchanan (CA)
- - -
Analysis: On paper, Buchanan is the top all-around team in California when the 5000m is the distance of choice. Five upperclassmen are tasked with leading the charge as Buchanan chases the plethora of California powers ranked ahead of them. Posting a lethal 33-second split between their first and fifth runner, the Bears are a sleeper pick to make it out of the crowded mess that is Division I.
Seniors Luke Sanders and Deaglan Givan are coming off relatively decent track campaigns and are both in the mix for some hardware as the season goes on. Last year, Buchanan came up short in terms of putting together a statement win but still managed to hold their own at loaded meets including Clovis and Woodbridge. With the CIF State Championships acting as the state's primary route to NXN, Buchanan will need to challenge Great Oak and ML King to garner enough attention for a possible at-large bid.
