Analysis: Shively ended his season where it counted: In the winner's column.
Despite winning just one time previously over his junior campaign, Shively responded with a stellar effort at the Kansas Class 3A Championships, clocking a winning time of 15:26.11. That's not to say his junior season was less than, though.
Shively battled over the course of the campaign, posting a career best 5K time of 14:47.40 at the Olathe Twilight -- finishing just behind Sage Wilde and Wyatt Haughton -- and covering the Roy Griak Les Bolstad course in 15:44.80, good for sixth overall.
Shively, however, elevated further over the outdoor season, setting a new junior class record in the 1,500m in 3:44.43, a time that was part of his one mile effort of 4:01.47, a junior class No. 1. He also ran 1:51 for 800m and clocked a 3,200m best of 8:50.75.
Shively will be tough to beat in 2023.
