Going into the TSSAA State Track and Field Championships, Jordan Ware of Memphis Central sprinted 10.28 in the 100m prelims at the Texas Relays for a season's best.
When the state title was on the line, the Mississippi recruit put together the second-fastest time in the nation and a No. 8 all-time performance.
Ware came on late in the race, but he stopped the clock in 10.13 (+2.0) for a new personal best and was just off Issam Asinga's nation-leading mark of 10.10 (+1.0) set back in March. Ware doubled back in the 200m and used a personal best of 20.63 (+1.6) to move up to US No. 8 in this event.
Despite the windy conditions, Jakobe Tharp of Rockvale earned back-to-back titles in the 110mH with a 13.32 (+3.0). This time ranks Tharp US No. 2 under all-conditions this spring.
On the girls side, Claire Stegall of Nolensville continued her undefeated season by adding another 1,600m title to her name. Stegall ran a US No. 6 time and a personal best of 4:41.40 and set a new Tennessee overall state record.
