The Penn Relays record of 4:38.19 was set back in 2019 by Ripley's (WV) Victoria Starcher. Irene Riggs was originally in the field, but the West Virginia star -- the Nike Cross Nationals champion in December -- has scratched.
In her absence, that leaves New York's Kate Putman and Angelina Napoleon will be in the field.
The future NC State runners will be in the mix. Putman, who finished fifth last year in this race with a 4:48.47 outdoor best, already ran a 4:44.48 this indoor season. Napoleon, the national high school record holder in the 2K steeplechase, clocked 4:47.36 this indoor season to finish ninth at New Balance National Indoors.
Also contesting for the title is Freehold Township's (NJ) Emma Zawatski who has experience competing at the national level under her belt. The junior has a 4:48.71 indoor best to her resume entering this year's Penn Relays.
