State Qualifying Is Well Underway In Texas And Georgia
- - -
This week, Texans took aim at Area Qualifying. On Page 1, you heard about Fort Bend Marshall's dazzling performance in the boys 4x100.
Here, let's start with Prosper's Lauren Lewis. The high school senior absolutely blitzed the record book in the 400m at her Area-Meet this weekend, securing a new state record of 51.83 seconds in the 400m.
You know how good a time that was?
It overcame a formerly held state record that had stood since 2006. Nearly 20 years. Fort Bend Marshall's Brandi Cross last held the record with a time of 51.96.
Elsewhere, Houston Strake Jesuit's Reese Vannerson put a dominating double. From Texas MileSplit:
This week, he took the next steps to helping that materialize with his wins in the 1600m and 3200m at the UIL District 23-6A & 24-6A Area Championships. The wins came in elite fashion, just as Vannerson has been performing all season long. He started things off with a 8:59.36 in the 3200m and ended with a 4:07 in the 1600m.
There were also top performances from Colter Maya in the 400m, Sydney Bryant in the 100m and Allen's Jonathan Simms in the 400m.
Meanwhile, Georgia athletes took aim at Regional action.
Lassale Hewlett dropped a time of 10.52 in the 100m, Hillgrove's boys popped a 41.42 in the 4x100, while Ryan Davis, Hillgrove's top girls sprinter, topped the boards over the weekend with her leading 11.51 and 23.52 in the 100m and 200m, respectively.
Hillgrove wasn't done, though. The girls ran the weekend's second-fastest 4x100 in 45.72.
