Vestavia Hills Knocks Off Alabama State 4x800 Record
- - -
Major props has to go out to the Vestavia Hills boys this weekend.
The Alabama quartet of Mitchell Schaaf, Henry Strand, Max Armstrong and Alex Leath downed the Alabama state record in the 4x800 at the Hewitt-Trussville Invitational, clocking a time of 7:38.25 to drop a new U.S. No. 1 time.
That performance was five seconds better than anyone in the U.S. this season and just over two seconds faster than Smith Station's 7:40.88 Alabama 16-year-old record that was last accomplished in 2007.
The time now sits at No. 31 all-time in the high school record books.
