Tyrone Gorze locks in for 14:11 on the track

Not often are cross country runners afforded the opportunity to lace it up and go for a fast 5K on the track.
Unless, of course, you're from Oregon.
On Thursday night at Crater High School, national-title contender Tyrone Gorze followed up his blitzing performance at the Woodbridge Classic with an all-timer on his home track, registering the twenty-fifth fastest time ever for 5K on an outdoor track in 14:11.38.
He was followed by two others under 15 minutes, including Coos Bay Marshfield's Alexander Garcia-Silver, who ran 14:40.23, and Ashland's Nathan Stein, who clocked a time of 14:59.
Gorze was shooting for a sub-14 minute attempt, of which only 10 high school boys all-time have ever accomplished.

Perhaps Gorze is the first to ever run this fast in the month.
No one in the top 100 performances for 5K outdoors have ever done so in the fall months of August, September, October, November or December.
