Hurricane Ian may have put a damper on competition in Florida over the last two weeks, but a host of teams were ready to step up to the challenge on Saturday in the rescheduled Flrunners Invitational.
Chief among them?
The Belen Jesuit boys.
The Miami-based team rolled at the competition, watching as junior Joshua Ruiz finished second in the elite race in 15:49.09 while runners two through five went three, five, six and seven as the squad scored 23 points, just eight off of a perfect score.
The 36-second spread was impressive, and so too was the team's 16:10 average. Better yet, head coach Frankie Ruiz also saw his B team win the Jason Byrne Invitational race with 22 points and a 17:31 average.
And, if that's not enough, Ruiz's development runners, the middle school boys, won the boys 3K race, too.
