No. 12: Granada (CA)
- - -
Analysis: A heartbreaking 7-point loss to San Luis Obispo at the CIF State Division 2 Cross Country Championships last year aside, Granada should be elated by the position they're in heading into the fall. The Matadors return six runners from that team, including No. 1 Roland Ruckmann-Barnes, along with the next three scorers from state.
They're also ranked as the third-best team in California, only behind Newbury Park and Great Oak, which is its own kind of honor. The team's top three athletes all have run under 16 minutes, while the program's 1-to-5 spread, based off last year's PRs, stands at a meager 42 seconds. With that kind of experience, expect Granada to make a major run at CIF in 2022.
Biggest Question: There aren't many holes in this lineup.
If the team were to concentrate on one thing, perhaps it would be the split. While Ruckmann-Barnes is a front-runner who will have a chance to win some races, if his teammates can shore up the gap behind him and really close the gap within one another, they will be very hard to beat.
