Analysis: This Miami program has been flat-out dominant over the last half-decade. In November, the program led by Frankie Ruiz won its fifth-straight state championship in Florida, and did so by a whopping 90 points. The quest in 2022 will be for a sixth-straight, and if we're being quite honest ... they're likely to do it, with five returners back from that team in 2021.
Joshua Ruiz, a junior who showed immense promise last fall, will be tasked with leading this team following the graduation of Adam Magoulas. He's the only athlete on this roster to have broken 15:30 for 5K, though two others have dipped under 16 minutes. Ruiz will have to continue to work on building depth and shoring up the spread, but that's what the season is for: We don't doubt Belen will be among the best programs in Florida, and possibly by year's end, could be a top 10 team, too.
Biggest Question: What can this Florida team do at the regional or national level?
Ruiz has ties to Nike -- he's an official club coach in Miami for a large run group -- so the bet here would be that he would have this team run at the Team Nationals Regional in November. But that's wherein lies the question: Florida teams don't have the strongest pedigree getting to the national meet. Can this Belen Jesuit team buck that trend and make its way to a season-ending one?
