The 2019 Clovis Invitational Championship boys 5K was a close race between Newbury Parks' (CA) Nico Young and Highland High's (AZ) Leo Daschbach.
The battle produced the two fastest times ever in meet history. Young led the race from the beginning and ended up taking it wire-to-wire.
Daschbach, however, made it interesting down the homestretch and got within a few seconds of Young. It would be the closest Young would come to losing a race the entire 2020 cross country season.
The duo would clock times of 14:28.90 and 14:30.90, respectively. Young now runs for Northern Arizona University while Daschbach competes for the University of Washington.
