Fast UIL Region 800m
- - -
The girls 800m at the Region 1-6A meet in Arlington, Texas this past Saturday was a battle.
The field was loaded with some of the country's top talent, with many of the same girls who competed in the UIL District 5-6 6A Area Championship -- the same race which led to five athletes running sub 2:10.
Unlike in that battle, Flower Mound (TX) freshman, Nicole Humphries would earn the win this time over Prosper junior Aubrey O'Connell. The duo ran 2:08.30 and 2:08.74, respectively. Humphries' time is the nation's leading freshman time, and an overall US No. 5 effort.
Humphries and O'Connell both qualified for the state meet along with Coppell's Waverly Hassman. Hassman ran 2:09.50 for the fastest third-place performance out of all four Class 6A UIL Region meets that took place over the weekend.
