In the final 200 meters, Greer's (SC) Madeline White threw in a surge to pass Walhalla's (SC) Emily Arenas and in doing so broke the 5-minute barrier.
White ran 4:59.90, while Arenas ran 5:01.22 to place second. The duo's times are No. 1 and No. 2 in the state of South Carolina. And in fact, this meet produced the top five times for the girls 1,600m in South Carolina.
