Anna Hall Breaks Pentathlon National Record

Valor Christian (CO) High School senior Anna Hall put together the best overall performance in high school pentathlon history on Friday, setting a new national record with 4,302 points as she finished third overall at the USA Track and Field Senior Indoor Championships at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Facility in Staten Island, New York.

In doing so, the University of Georgia signee secured her second high school national record in a multi-event competition in less than a year, doubling back from her ground-breaking win in the girls heptathlon at The Great Southwest Classic in June when she scored 5,798 points.

Hall's point total is remarkable in another way, too: It currently ranks No. 3 at the U20 level.

Her landmark effort was built from a solid day's work, including an indoor PR of 5-11.25 in the high jump. She ran 8.56 seconds in the 60mH, threw 41-8.5 in the shot put and scored 18-4.5 in the long jump.

But ultimately, it was her 2:16.11 effort at 800 meters, a race she won, that sealed the national record and put a stamp on Hall's career as the best girls athlete in the multis in high school history.

Friday was a huge moment for the Colorado prep in other ways, too. The performance was a literal passing of the torch. Former record holder Kendell Williams, the Marietta Kell (GA) High School graduate who set the previous national standard of 4,068 points in 2013, was competing alongside Hall across five events -- Williams won the indoor national title with 4,496 points

It was her first competition against Williams, an Olympian and multiple NCAA champion for Georgia -- the very program Hall will join in the fall to begin her collegiate career.

And beyond the matter-of-fact performances from the nation's top high school multis athlete, the day also signaled a big year-over-year improvement from the senior, who in March of last year scored 4,054 points to win the pentathlon at New Balance Nationals Indoor.

This might not be Hall's final visit to the pentathlon, either.

She will compete at New Balance Nationals Indoor in March with the aim of winning her third straight title.
