Armand Duplantis Set To Compete At Mt. SAC Relays

MileSplit's Billy Cvecko talking with Mondo after his Indoor national record.

Armand "Mondo"  DuPlantis, one of the greatest high school pole vaulters in history, is entered to compete at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 15 in Torrance, California. DuPlantis will be vying for a title in the high school pole vault at 5:30 PM (PDT)t Murdock Stadium on the campus of El Camino College. The Lafayette (LA) High School senior had an outstanding indoor season, becoming the first-ever high school athlete to vault over 19 feet. His indoor PR of 19-1 is not only the highest vault ever by anyone under 20 years old, but it also surpasses the career-best of 19-0.25 set by his father and former world-class vaulter Greg DuPlantis.

The current outdoor high school national record is held by former Park Hill (MO) standout Chris Nilsenwho vaulted 18-4.75 at his regional meet last year. With Duplantis owning eight of the top 10 spots on the absolute all-time list and having vaulted 18 feet or higher eight times in competition, it's only a matter of time before he snags the outdoor record as well.

"It's going to be a lot of fun for West Coast track and field fans to see him compete in person," Mt. SAC Relays director Doug Todd said. "I know there's going to be an amazing amount of support in the stands for him on meet day and not just from pole vault fans. Everyone will want to see this high school kid get after it."

Mt. SAC Relays are being streamed live on FloTrack. You can watch Mondo's vaults and all the action with a MileSplit Universal account
