While No. 12 ranked Ashton Endsley ran away with the Texas Class 6A-Region 1 Championship title, No. 9 ranked Southlake Carroll and No. 10 Keller battle fiercely for top team honors.
The individual battle in Class 6A should be between No. 12 ranked Ashton Endsley and No. 23 ranked Julia Heymach. Heymach won last year's mud fest while Endsley finished a disappointing 11th overall, though in the post-season, Heymach was 36th at Foot Locker and Endsley was sixth at NXN. The two athletes raced on Oct. 1 at the McNeil Invitational and Endsley won, 16:50.65 to 17:04.99.
However, the fastest time of the day at McNeil actually came from the 6A Varsity section, not the Girls Gold Race, as freshman London Culbreath ran a solo 16:48.59. The ninth-grader at McKinney North competes in Class 5A, so eyes will be on that race to see how her time matches up to the senior studs in 6A.
