The Southlake Carroll and Keller teams have traded spots in the national rankings all fall. Southlake Carroll made a big splash in September with a surprise third-place finish at the Woodbridge Sweepstakes behind top-ranked Desert Vista (#3) and Great Oak (#4), but then fell to in-state rivals Keller, 90 to 86, at the Chile Pepper XC Festival in Arkansas. The teams raced each other again on Oct. 29 at the Region 1 Championship, where Southlake won another close battle, 41 to 52 points. The seeded race at Chile Pepper is one of the biggest in the nation (562 athletes, 82 teams), while the regional meet was clearly more contained (183 athletes, 24 teams). The virtual meet predicts Southlake Carroll to win going away with 64 points, while projecting The Woodlands (116) to finish much closer to Keller (102).
