This actually isn't as big of a shock as you might think. Joe Benson from Timpanogos High School in Utah was not ranked at the time of this race, but he was No. 25 in the pre-season thanks to his breakout 16th place, All-American run at NXN last year. He got bumped out of the Flo50 due to a few standout performances from non-ranked runners, but he has quietly built an undefeated resume in Utah this season -- as has Proctor. Benson edged him by two seconds: 14:54.16 to 14:56.01.
