Claremont Girls Take Down No. 6 Arcadia
No. 6 ranked Arcadia looks poised to be one of California's top teams come November, but the Apaches fell to unranked Claremont on Saturday at the Cool Breeze Evening Invitational while competing without two of their top five projected runners.
Claremont scored 63 points, thanks to Annie Boos (5th, 17:16.9), Sydney Hwang (8th, 17:46.8), Jax Heckers (11th, 17:54.2), Tess Rounds (18th, 18:04.5) and Alyssa Cantrell (21st, 18:09). No. 6 Frances O'Leary was just off Cantrell in 22nd, 18:11.8.
Arcadia was led by Holly Lung (7th, 17:44.2), Joy Huang (13th 17:56.3), Eryca Yamane (14th, 17:57.4), Cindy Liang (19th, 18:05.2) and Tori Rodriguez (28th, 18:18.8). The gap from No. 4 to No. 5 was wide, but add back in projected No. 2 Jasmine He and No. 5 Cindy Hoang and Arcadia is the superior group.
Kelli Hines won the overall title in 16:54.8. The quick course is projected to be 3.02 miles, according to meet director Bill Reeves.
Claremont also won the Boys Seeded Varsity race with 98 points, led by Owen Bishop's fourth-place, 15:02 run, plus won the Girls JV, Sophomore Girls, Freshman Girls and Freshman Boys races.
