Armand 'Mondo' Duplantis Sets Swedish Junior National Record

Armand "Mondo" Duplantis set the Swedish junior national record in the pole vault with a clearance of 5.51m/18'01.0" at a meet in Sweden yesterday.

The mark is a new all-time personal best for Duplantis and elevates him to tie No. 5 on the world U-20 list this year. He also moves from No. 8 to No. 7 on the U.S. all-time list for high schoolers. The showing bodes well for the 16-year-old, who will represent Sweden at the IAAF World U-20 Championships next week. He claims dual citizenship between Sweden and the United States and resides in Lafayette, La., where he is a rising high school junior.

Duplantis won the IAAF World Youth Championships last summer, but is one of the younger athletes in this summer's world competition. 19-year-old Kurtis Marschall of Australia leads the U-20 pole vault rankings at 18'-8.5".
