Storyline #1: How Many Points Can Team Lyles Score?
If New Balance Nationals Indoor aggregated team scoring, could Noah and Josephus Lyles take home the title for T.C. Williams High School?
As juniors in 2015, the duo racked up points in three events: the 60m (2nd place, Noah), 200m (1st place, Noah) and 400m (3rd place, Josephus).
But, in 2016, they could do even better: both Noah and Josephus are entered in the 60m and rank U.S. No. 1 and U.S. No. 3, respectively in the 55m, which is the more common distance in Virginia; defending champion Noah is also entered in the 200m, where he ranks No. 2 in 2016; and the 400m boasts the presence of top returner Josephus, who ranks No. 2 in the 500m this year.
But on top of that, the T.C. Williams Titans enter New York as the No. 1-ranked 4x200-meter relay team in the country. Their time of 1:27.29 ranks No. 8 All-Time, but that race might be the toughest of to win as No. 2 ranked Archbishop Carroll of D.C. has recorded 1:27.54, good for No. 10 All-Time.
But they're not just looking for a win in the relay -- the brothers won't be satisfied without usurping Long Beach Poly's 11-year-old National High School Record of 1:26.09.
Watch the interview below, when the Titans expressed their disappointment on missing the record while still winning the Millrose Games:
