Saucony Flo50 US top 25 teams: #6 American Fork (5A), #19 Davis (5A)
This is the opposite of the boys race: American Fork is the clear favorite, with Davis looking to pull the upset. Fork beat Davis by six points at Bob Firman, and finished twenty-two points ahead of the Darts at Murray in September. The Cavemen (Cavewomen? Cavepeople?) are the defending Utah champs, and Davis's most recent state title came in 2013.
The matchup is a classic low-sticks versus depth showdown. Wayment and Argyle have both finished in the top four every time they've lined up this fall except for when Argyle finished thirteenth at Bob Firman, and they've been consistently top ten at the state meet in their careers. Argyle finished second her freshman and sophomore seasons, while Wayment has never been worse than ninth at Sugarhouse. American Fork has averaged a ridiculously tight 36.9-second spread 1-5, and has serious insurance with usual No. 6 Katie Cornell averaging just a second slower than No. 5 Cami Squires.
For both the boys and girls 5A races, the question is: will the defending champions be fast AF, or will they get Forked by Davis?
