Summer Training, Week 4: July 13th - July 19th
I had one more fast mile race that I wanted to do this summer before I turned full focus to putting a good mileage base on my legs. The race was on Wednesday night so I wanted to be ready to have some fun in that. So I did easy mileage in the first part of the week and really picked up the intensity and mileage Thursday.
Monday July 13th - Easy solo run for about 5 miles on some trails at a nearby park.
Tuesday July 14th - off
Wednesday July 15th - mile race went off at 7:45 at night. Did 12 min warm-up and 10 min cool down. The race went well. I was put in the elite race with about 10 guys. We went out decent(around 2:11) finished up in 4:22 which was fine for a fun summer race. Congrats to Jeff groh on the 4:11 win.
Thursday July 16th - Had a great run. I didn't take a watch, I just went out and ran a 6 mile loop near my house and finished up with some striders barefoot in my backyard.
Friday July 17th - Went to New York with the lovely Noemie Noulett (just a special friend) and her mom and stepdad. Her stepdad was having a family reunion that was held on Long Island. I was excited to be spending the weekend In New York but I knew I had to get some solid runs in. Noem and I ran 6 miles that day on some roads around the hotel around 7 min miles.
Saturday 18th - We went to Robert Moses state park in the early morning ready to run. After taking a look around the park we started our run. We ran about 3 miles on a narrow boardwalk path and finished on the road to get 5 miles in 36 min. It wasn't an easy run because Noemie feels that " consistency is boring" so we would change our pace every half mile anywhere from 5:45- 8:00.
Sunday July 19th - After coming back from New York, my coach(Jeff Sanborn) had invited noemie and me over to run. He had me do a 10 mile road loop and noemie did 5. My coach and my dad biked along side me on the run. It was a very hot day so I took 3 quick water breaks on the run. After hitting around the 7th mile and hearing my coach mention that we had some hills to get up I really started to feel the pain In my legs. After finishing up we all had an amazing dinner of chicken and corn(thank you Mrs. Sanborn!) It was definitely a run that left me feeling accomplished.
Week mileage - 36
I will now really start to begin ramping up the mileage with forms of cross training and most importantly build confidence going into the season.
