MITS - GVSU #3 Gazelle Sports Elite Meet (MI)
UPSET ALERT! Home-schooler Sarah Kettel defeated Audrey Belf, US #1 10:28.82 3,200m to US #3 10:31.11 3,200m in the MITS GVSU #3 Gazelle Sports Elite Meet on Saturday.
The Gazelle Elite Meet signaled a breakout competition for Kettel, as she PRed by a full 30 seconds for the win.
Kettel enjoyed a strong cross country season as she qualified for both Foot Locker Nationals and Nike Cross Nationals, finishing 39th and 23rd, respectively - though which were far behind Belf's 7th and 14th place finishes. Belf entered the competition with by far the best two mile credentials, as she has run 10:10.9 for a runner-up finish at last year's New Balance Indoor Nationals.
Belf's Birmingham Seaholf teammate Rachel Dadamio finished just behind in US #4 10:31.29 as a total of 7 girls broke 11 minutes.
In the Boys Elite 3,200m, Jesse Hersha (Concord) ran away with a US #8 9:11.95 victory over Brayden Law (Homestead), who ran US #20 9:19.92. Five boys broke 9:30.
