Great Oak (CA)
They did not make it to Nike Cross Nationals and were a distance 8th place in their division race at the California state meet, but the track times produced by the returnees from the Great Oak boys were too good to not have them on our watch list. Its still tough to determine who will be the actual best team from the state of California including a 2013 NXN squad in Madera South who returns a solid core from last year, but the Great Oak boys had run some great times prior to their state XC meet with 5 guys having run 3 mile times hovering around 15 minutes and only a 20 second spread. During the track season, Great Oak had 7 returnees under 10 minutes led by Nick Doan at 9:05 and two others under 9:30. Virtually that same group of 7 all ran under 4:30 in the 1600 as well which was best in the country in terms of depth with Doan again the team's fastest at 4:11. Those track times have to translate into something good in XC for the Great Oak boys.
