Workout Wednesday: Victoria Starcher

Victoria Starcher is one of the nation's top distance runners, yet she is found located in a small town of Ripley, West Virginia. She has been rising on the national scene and certainly show flashes of her talents in local meets as well as out of state national events, but no performance measures up greater than recently winning the Penn Relays high school girls mile in a meet record performance (breaking Mary Cain's record) and moving herself into a US top 10 all-time performance in the event of 4:38.19.

A week after that performance, MileSplit.com visited Starcher for a workout visit and she certainly wasn't slowing down at all from that historic race. Starched first cranked out 5 x 500 meter repeats all under 1:30 aiming for her 1500 meter goal pace with 2 minutes rest. Following a 4 minute rest, Starched spiked it up for 6 x 200 meter repeats with alternating rest of 30 seconds for one repeat then 90 seconds for the next repeat. With that rest, Starcher went 32, 30, 32, 29, 32, and 29 seconds for her 6 repeats in order.

Only a junior, Starcher has plenty of more racing left to further stamp out her legacy as the greatest girls distance runner to come out of the state of West Virginia. She will be racing over the next 4 weeks at the West Virginia State Championships (Live on MileSplit) and Music City Distance Carnival (Live on Flotrack). She is expected to be racing against pro competition at Music City.
