Event summary explanation
USA Track & Field (USATF) is the National Governing Body for track and field, long-distance running and race walking in the United States. USATF encompasses the world's oldest organized sports, the most-watched events of Olympic broadcasts, the #1 high school and junior high school participatory sport and more than 30 million adult runners in the United States.
USATF’s Youth Program is organized into 6 age divisions covering ages 6 – 18 (Sub-Bantams, Bantams, Midget, Youth, Intermediate, and Young) with separate divisions for males and females (Sub-Bantams through Intermediate are referred to as boys and
girls. The Young Men and Young Women make up the oldest age group).
World Youth Track & Field Trials/USA Youth Outdoor Track & Field Championships
Technically this is two track and field meets taking place at the same time (June 28- July 3, 2011) at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach. The World Youth Trials includes the participation of qualified elite youth athletes who will compete to represent the US at the World Youth Games. The winning athletes will spend the remainder of the week at Coastal Carolina University and will depart from there to represent the USA in the World Youth games in Paris, France.

The USA Youth Outdoor Track and Field Championships are open to all USATF youth athletes. There are standards in place to act as guidelines for participation. The Championship features all of the same track and field events that you see in the Olympics, with the exception of the marathon and the 10,000 meters (not all age groups run all events). USATF will webcast the event across the country on a subscription basis.
The Myrtle Beach Local Organizing Committee (LOC) anticipates 3,000 – 5,000 youth athletes age 7 – 18 over the 6 day event from across the country. Many will attend as a member of a local track club. Others will compete as “unattached” athletes. These athletes will compete for individual, relay team, and overall club championships. http://www.usatf.org/events/2011/USAYouthOutdoorTFChampionships/
The LOC is planning a number of amenities at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium, including an on- site “Championship Village”. The Myrtle Beach Area Convention and Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) has arranged for discounted accommodations and a special group meals/amusement package for Championship participants.
