The 2014 edition of NXNSE proved to be a great event for Virginia’s harriers. Runners returned home from Cary, North Carolina’s Wake Med course boasting individual titles, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Team All NXNSE places, and team trophies.

Never before had two Florida boys or a Florida girl qualified for NXN in Portland, Oregon. The 2014 Nike Southeast Regional changed that as Sukhi Khosla (2nd), Franco Martins (4th), and Rafaella Gibbons (6th) will all advance after some of the best cross country performances in their high school careers.

They ranked 1st and 2nd in the state all season (and all time), and they both wear green. But they haven't raced in 2014 - until Saturday.
Kentucky's NXN Southeast Regional Entries
Leon senior Sukhi Khosla has been unbeatable in Florida over the last year and a half. As a junior he won his first 3A Cross Country Finals championship and was 19th at the Foot Locker South Regional. In 2014, Khosla ran sub 14:59 at the FSU Invitational/Pre-State for the second straight year and picked up his second consecutive 3A Cross Country Finals individual title. The Lions were runner-up behind rival Chiles. It was a devastating loss and the chance to go out on top was the ultimate decision that led him to choose to run in NXN SE. He talks about that decision and the workouts leading up to this weekend's main event.
Foot Locker South and NXN SE will be taking place this weekend in North Carolina.

Estero's Katie Slater just missed out on a trip to Porland in 2012 after finishing 9th while Elliot Clemente took individual honors and Belen Jesuit won the team title in 2011. Slater's time of 18:04.20 and Clemente's 14:5.50 are the fastest on the WakeMed coure by any Sunshine State harrier. The Foot Locker South Regional and NXN Southeast Regional are just days away! Florida has sent both individuals and teams to the finals of both events in the past decade, but who will punch their tickets on Saturday? We want to know what you think. Vote for the number of individuals you think will advance from Charlotte and head to San Diego for Foot Locker Nationals and the ammount of individuals/teams you think will leave Cary, North Carolina en route to Portland, Oregon for NXN.
The WakeMed Soccer Complex in Cary, North Carolina will play host to the NXN SE Regional. On the girl's side teams from Winter Park, Bolles, Ft. Myers, and Pine Crest are all enetered as well as Hannah Brookover of Calvary Christian who will run as an individual. On the boy's side, Leon WILL RUN their 3A runner-up team. Trinity Prep will also be in attendance on the team side, as well as Franco Martins of Windermere Prep, Cal Davidson-Turner of Cardinal Mooney, and Zack Summerall of Sarasota who will all try to punch their ticket by placing in the top five not on one of the two qualifying teams. Though knowing the top individuals in a Nike regional can be helpful, the real thing at stake are those very valuable two automatic qualifying slots. Check out how the Southeast Region is slated to go based on our system's bests for all the teams inside this region.
The top two teams at NXN Southeast this weekend in Cary, North Carolina will receive an automatic bid into the NXN Nationals in Portland, Oregon in mid December. Florida has six teams in the top thirty, but only three of those, Winter Park, Bolles, and Pine Crest will be in attendance. The Wildcats are coming off of a 4A Cross Country Finals championship and have one of the top individual runners in freshman Rafaella Gibbons. Coach McWilliams team ran at Great American earlier in the year to prepare themselves for this course. A strong showing from their number five Emily Nix and the rest of the girls could propel them to a podium spot and trip to the big dance!
Leon and Chiles battled it out all season long for the best team in Tallahassee and the state as well. Chiles took three out of four match ups including the 3A Cross Country Finals team title. Coach Gowan said after the meet, he didn't want to face them again anytime soon, and it doesn't look like that will happen. Leon is the top ranked team in the NXN Southeast Regional (based on season bests), but Khosla will run at Foot Locker and Chiles isn't running in the postseason as a team. Belen Jesuit and Creekside are also on this list, as well as Trinity Prep, the 2A state champions. The Saints usually run in Nike and will once again this year.

Gibbons ran a season best 17:49.14 on the very same course during the Great American XC Festival and has the fastest time of any Floridian coming into the race, and the 22nd fastest in the field.
