AMES, Iowa � The future of Iowa State thrower Christina Hillman looks bright. No one knows that more than her coach, Iowa State throws mentor Grant Wall. He knew Hillman was special. By resume alone, Hillman was a great catch for the Cyclone track and field program. Now, after winning the shot put title at the U.S. Junior Track and Field Championships last weekend in Bloomington, Ind., her actions are speaking louder than words. (via )

The 2012 installment of New York City's famed Milrose Games, being the first outside of Madison Square Garden since 1913, had an overall peculiar feel to them. The meet and its illustrious history had been transferred 130 blocks uptown to The Armory, yet the recreation of that good old fashioned Milrose ambiance proved difficult. Hi! Originally, I had planned to blog each day from the Trials, but what I didn’t know was that my days would be jammed packed from 5am to 11pm. Since, there were so many highlights from my four-day experience at the Olympic Trials Youth Leadership Camp, I have decided to do a recap of my most memorable ones. This was definitely an experience I will never forget!
Virginia State University’s seven time All-American student-athlete, Samantha Edwards (senior/ Elmont, NY) and USA World Indoor Silver Medalist, Track and Field Assistant Coach Jernail Hayes (New Castle, DE), will toe the line over the next two weeks attempting to earn a spot representing the USA later this summer at the 2012 London Olympic Games. From June 2011 until this past Sunday (June 17th) anyone in the country had the opportunity to qualify for the Olympic Trials, held in Eugene, OR on June 22nd – July 1st. The USA Track & Field (USATF) selects the top 28 athletes in the entire country in the two events which VSU will be represented. Edwards has qualified in the 400m dash, while Hayes has qualified in the 400m Hurdles.

Invited out to Oregon for the Nike Elite Camp to train with some of best returning high school distance runners in the nation for 2012-2013, Chantilly rising senior Sean McGorty also got the opportunity to race in front of a huge crowd gathered for the U.S. Olympic Trials with a special high school mile race organized for the elite campers in the middle of the meet this past Friday.
