Prep Highlights

  • Boys CHSAA SMR - St. Anthony's got a lead during the anchor leg and hangs on for the victory with a time of 3:34.76.
  • Girls PSAL 4x400 - Medgar Evers (NY) won with a strong 55.1 anchor leg by Kadecia Baird to finish with a Meet Record time of 3:51.46.  Benjamin Cardozo (NY) was 2nd with a time of 3:52.37.
  • Boys Mile Run - It was all Zavon Watkins (NY) at the finish as he won with a time of 4:13.83.  Everett Price took the race through the 400 in 62.6 before Mike Marsella took over and brought the race through the half in 2:06.4. Zavon was in last place with 600 meters to go, but used his tremendous speed entering the last lap to take over the race and build a gap that would not be overcome.  Marsella hung on for 2nd in 4:14.68 and Ned Willig (PA) was 3rd.
  • Girls Mile Run - Samantha Nadel (NY) won the girls mile in dominating fashion with a time of 4:46.19 and set the meet record in the process!  Megan Moye (VA) was 2nd in 4:49.95 and Brianna Nerud (NY) was 3rd in 4:50.12.
  • Boys 55m Dash - Wayne Gordon won with a time of 6.46.
  • Girls 55m Dash - Myasia Jacobs (NJ) won the race with a time of 6.91.
  • SuperRunners Girls 4x800 - Garden City (NY) rolled to a US#10 all-time clocking of 9:00.92 to take the win and shatter the meet record!  Strath Haven (PA) was 2nd in 9:10.59 and Red Bank Catholic (NJ) was 3rd in 9:11.16.  Mamaroneck (NY) was 4th in 9:15.14 with two 8th graders and a sophomore on the squad.  Six squads in total got under the old meet record in this blazing race.
  • Suburban Boys 4x400 - Christian Brothers Academy (NJ) won a back and forth battle in a meet record clocking of 3:19.61 while Newburgh (NY) finishes 2nd in 3:20.82.  CBA's anchor split was 48.6.  Union Catholic (NY) was 3rd in 3:22.00.
  • PSAL Boys 4x400 - Boys & Girls (NY) won with a meet record time of 3:18.83.
  • Metropolitan Boys 4x800 - Boys & Girls (NY) won with a meet record time of 7:51.83.  Pawling (NY) was 2nd in 7:54.07 and Strath Haven (PA) was 3rd in 7:54.37.
  • Long Island HS boys 4x400 - Uniondale (NY) won the race with a solid 3:22.22 clocking.
  • Joe Fox Memorial CHSAA Girls SMR - St. Anthony's (NY) won with a blistering time of 4:02.62 to lower their own US#1 time.  The anchor was a blistering 2:12.1 split by Olicia Williams.  St. John Villa (NY) was 2nd in a US#4 time of 4:09.40.
  • Long Island Girls 4x400 - Massapequa (NY) won the race with a meet record run of 3:57.17.  Garden City (NY) was 2nd with a time of 3:57.63 and Uniondale (NY) was 3rd in 3:58.34. 
  • Suburban Girls 4x400 - New Rochelle (NY) won but just missed the meet record with a time of 3:56.44.  

 

 

Elite Highlights

 

  • Men's 5000 Meters - Bernard Lagat won with a new American Record clocking of 13:07.15 after a monster last lap!!  Lawi Lalang (Arizona) set the Collegiate Record with his 2nd place finish of 13:08.28.  Edward Cheserek (NJ) set the HS National Record with a time of 13:57.04!
  • NYRR Wanamaker Mile - Matthew Centrowitz won with a dramatic last lap kick in an Armory record time of 3:53.92.  Miles Batty was 2nd with a time of 3:54.54 to set the Collegiate Record!
  • Women's 800 Meters - Morgan Uceny won with a solid kick in 2:03.33 and prep Ajee Wilson got up for 4th with a US#2 All-Time mark of 2:04.13!
  • Women's 400 Meters - Sanya Richards-Ross set the Armory record with her 50.89 clocking to dominate the race.
  • Women's Pole Vault - Jenn Suhr cleard 15-00.25 to set the Armory record!
  • Men's High Jump - Jesse Williams set the Armory record with his leap of 7-7.25.
  • Men's 500 Meters - LaShawn Merritt wins in 1:01.39.  
  • Women's Metric Mile - Jenny Simpson won a thrilling race in a world best 4:07.27 over Shannon Rowbury, 4:07.66.
  • Women's Race Walk - Abby Dunn (ME) was 3rd and first prep with a US#1 clocking of 7:28.36.

 

Colorado Indoor State Championships, CO

Highlights

  • Chyna Reis (George Washington CO) won the long jump with a Sophomore Class Record leap of 20-5.75.

 

Spire D-1 Indoor HS Invitational, OH

Highlights

  • Daniel Pfeifer (McAuley) won the girls 800 with a quick time of 2:12.12 in a tight battle with Jamie Phelan (Laurel Creek) who was 2nd in 2:12.68.  Phelan also won the 1600 with a clocking of 4:58.39.
  • Larisa Debich (Hempfield) won the girls pole vault with a leap of 12-5.
  • Tyler Ross (Greater Latrobe) won the boys 400 meter dash with a quick 49.04 clocking.
  • Willy Fink (Maumee) won a close race in the boys 1600 run with a time of 4:17.38 over Steve Weaver (Napoleon) in 4:17.96.

 

USA Cross Country Championships, MO

Coverage

Highlights

  • Junior Women's Race - Margaret Dzraba (WV) finished 2nd in the 6km race in a quick time of 21:07.7 and finished as the first prep athlete.  Shannon Osika, a former Michigan prep star won the race overall with a time of 21:04.3.  Emma Abrahamson (CA) was the next best prep runner, finishing 7th with a time of 21:37.8.  Prep star Grace Tinkey (GA) was back in 18th, but suffered a reported ankle strain after 2k of racing.
  • Junior Men's Race - Darren Fahy (CA) was the top prep finisher in 7th place with a time of 25:09.2.  The race was won by Syracuse frosh Jace Lowry in 24:54.3.  

 

Great Southwest Classic, NM

Highlights

  • Jasmine Todd (Chandler AZ) won 4 events on the day with a 24.43 clocking over 200 meters a 7.42 time in the 60 meter dash, a 19-7 mark in the long jump and a 39-10.25 leap in the triple jump!
  • Ben Trotter (Mountain Pointe) won the 200 meter dash in 22.40 and the 60 meter dash in 6.90.

 

PTFCA Indoor Track Carnival, PA

Coverage

Highlights

  • Kyle Felpel (Cocalico PA) won the boys shot put with a US#4 toss of 62-8.75.
  • Chris Williams (Strath Haven PA) won the boys 60 meter hurdles with a US#5 time of 7.95 and also set a meet record.  Aaron Willett (Coateville PA) was 2nd with a US#7 time of 7.99.  
  • Chris Williams (Strath Haven PA) won the pole vault with a US#9 clearance of 15-9.
  • Deme'Shia Davis (CD East PA) won the girls 200 meter dash in 24.98.
  • T.J. Elliot (CD East PA) won the boys 200 meter dash in 22.15.
  • Angel Piccirillo (Homer Center PA) won the One mile run in 5:04.21 and the 3000 meter run in 10:26.97.  She also placed 3rd in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15.68.

  • Leshon Collins (Glasgow DE) blew through the 55 meter dash with a US#2 clocking of 6.29.
