Hoka Festival of Miles - Thursday, June 5th
Running a time of 4:02.56 in the mile, Benjamin Adams won the Elite High School division. Adams won this division in an incredibly tight race, where only one second separated 1st through 7th place. Adams ran a PR of almost nine seconds from his altitude time of 4:10 in the 1600m. He currently has the best time for all Colorado kids this season. Take a look at his interview after the race here.
Rocco Culpepper also raced in the elite division where he ran 4:03.80 for 7th overall. As mentioned above, this race was incredibly tight and Culpepper gave himself a chance to win the race by putting himself in the pack. He just got out kicked however. Culpepper did end up running a nice PR of almost seven seconds.
Finally, Cadel Ruthven ran 4:10.28 in the Elite High School Division. Though this may have not been his best outing, Ruthven did go on to race the next day in Kansas at the Kronos Distance Night and ran slightly faster, running 4:09, making it a very busy week of travel for Ruthven.
For the girls, Mia Williams ran 4:43.97 finishing 3rd overall in the Elite High School division. Her previous best in the 1600m was 4:53, showing a huge improvement in this race. Once again it was a very tight race, but Williams just missed out on the win, but still came a way with a top three finish and a nice PR.
In the Championship division, Benjamin Anderson ran 4:02.98 for 8th overall, finishing a few seconds from the rest of the pack. Anderson put himself in the race and though he may have wanted to run faster, he still earned a new personal best, similar to his teammate, Adams.
Rosie Mucharsky and Emily Cohen also ran in the Championship division, where Mucharsky ran 4:44.48, finishing 9th overall and Emily Cohen ran 4:51.65, finishing 15th overall. Similar to Anderson, this may not have been their true potential considering they have ran these times before at altitude, but it did give them more experience racing in these larger championship style races, which will only serve them more in the future.
