TAPPS Championships Recap: Girls 100m

We're excited to begin rolling out our TAPPS Championship recaps. We acknowledge we're a few weeks behind, as our team was called on to provide additional coverage for state championships in neighboring states immediately following the first weekend in May.

Over the next few days, we'll be publishing event-by-event recaps for both boys and girls divisions. These summaries are based on official results and insights from individuals who were on-site at the meet to ensure accuracy and context.

2025 TAPPS 1A Girls 100m State Championship Recap

The 2025 TAPPS 1A Girls 100m final brought together a tightly packed field of competitors, where every hundredth of a second counted in determining the medalists. Running with a significant tailwind of 2.4 meters per second, Rachel Graves (Texoma Christian) emerged as the state champion with a time of 13.38. Though not among the fastest 1A sprinters in the state this season, Graves delivered when it mattered most, narrowly edging out her closest challengers in a thrilling finish.

Just behind her, Elisabeth East (Wichita Falls Christ Academy) crossed in 13.39, followed by Kelsey Evans (Kingdom Collegiate Academy) in 13.41. All three medalists were separated by just three hundredths of a second, making this one of the closest finishes of the weekend. East's teammate, Chaney Clark, also ran well, placing fourth in 13.49 to give Christ Academy two top-four finishes and a strong team showing in the event.

Rounding out the final were Mia Vega (San Angelo Cornerstone Christian) in 13.63, Celeste Rubio (Spring Founders Christian) in 13.71, Riley McClaugherty (Harvest Christian) in 13.75, and Lily Grimet (Angleton Christian) in 14.16. While the winning times didn't challenge the top-ranked performances from larger classifications this season, this race exemplified the depth and determination found across all levels of Texas private school track, with these 1A sprinters proving they belonged on the state stage.

2025 TAPPS 2A Girls 100m State Championship Recap

The 2025 TAPPS 2A Girls 100m final showcased a commanding performance by senior Aaliyah Cobb (Universal City First Baptist Academy). Cobb separated herself from the field early and held her form through the finish, crossing the line in 12.41 seconds with a legal tailwind of 1.7 m/s. It was a significant step up from her previous season best of 12.32 and a clear display of senior poise and execution when it mattered most.

Behind her, Berkley Boyd (Prestonwood Christian Academy North) clocked 12.95 to take silver. Boyd, a junior, showed solid form and consistency after placing among the top sprinters in the district all season. Zaya Blackwood (Holy Trinity Catholic) rounded out the medalists in third with a 12.99, continuing her strong postseason after a top finish at the TAPPS South Regional.

Fourth through seventh places were separated by just under half a second, highlighting the event's depth at the 2A level. Skylar Mozisek (Shiner St. Paul) ran 13.18 for fourth, followed by Sophia Wagnon (Greenville Christian) in 13.33, and Bryan Allen Academy's duo of Alexis Chapa (13.49) and Emory Carroll (13.57). While Cobb's winning time wasn't among the fastest statewide across all classifications-especially compared to 1A and 6A standouts-it was a dominant victory in her division and capped off a strong senior season.

2025 TAPPS 3A Girls 100m State Championship Recap

The TAPPS 3A Girls 100-meter final at the 2025 State Championships featured a thrilling sprint that showcased the rising young talent across the classification. Freshman GloryEvelyn Mitchell (Covenant Classical) delivered a composed and explosive performance to win the title in 13.04 seconds. Despite a strong tailwind of 2.5 m/s, Mitchell held off the field in a tight finish, signaling a bright future for the young standout.

Covenant Classical also earned the silver medal thanks to junior Abby Latimer, who clocked 13.19, just edging Addison Allerkamp (Central Texas Christian), who matched the time for bronze. Latimer's experience likely helped secure the runner-up finish in a blanket finish where places two through five were separated by just over a tenth of a second.

Just off the top three podium spots was Raelynn Brown (Kennedale Fellowship Academy), who placed fourth with a solid 13.35, followed closely by Hannah Frueh (McKinney Cornerstone Christian Academy) in 13.38. Both athletes were in contention until the final strides, showcasing how competitive the 3A sprint landscape has become. Avery Sindel (13.44), Naomi Joseph (13.59), and Ireland Gunder (13.80) rounded out the final.

Although the winning time in this classification didn't rival the elite marks seen in TAPPS 6A or UIL divisions, the youth in this field-particularly the dominance by freshmen and sophomores-highlights a promising crop of sprinters that could reshape the leaderboard in coming years.

2025 TAPPS 4A Girls 100m State Championship Recap

The 2025 TAPPS 4A Girls 100-meter final was all about Arlington Pantego Christian, as the school secured a dominant 1-2 finish behind the speed of Neriah Williams and Tailyn Moore. Williams, a senior and one of the top sprinters in the classification all season, capped off her career with a powerful win in 12.05 seconds (1.9 m/s wind), tying the fourth-fastest wind-legal time across all TAPPS divisions this season. Her teammate Moore, just a junior, wasn't far behind, clocking 12.14 to secure silver. That time places her among the top ten overall performers in the association this year and cements her status as a title contender in 2026.

In third place, Kinsley Hendrix, a sophomore from Austin Hill Country Christian, continued her strong season with a podium finish in 12.38, matching her season best. The middle of the pack was tight, with Sasha Simon of Houston Northland Christian placing fourth in 12.53, followed by Krystal Koehler from Carrollton Prince of Peace in fifth at 12.61. Tomball Rosehill Christian's Kaydence Frazier (12.66) and freshman Arianna Bass of Plano Coram Deo Academy (12.69) rounded out a competitive field.

While the top marks didn't quite rival the elite times seen in TAPPS 6A or the younger phenoms of 1A and 2A, the 4A final did have slightly less wind and were under the allowable mark legal marks. With Williams graduating, Moore and Hendrix are now set up to battle for next year's crown, and based on these results, the next generation of sprinters in 4A is already making its presence known.

2025 TAPPS 5A Girls 100m State Championship Recap

Veteran sprinter Jaeden Thomas (Fort Worth Southwest Christian) capped her high school career in style, capturing the 2025 TAPPS 5A girls 100-meter title with a blazing 12.14 (+2.9 m/s) in a wind-aided final. The senior's mark ties for the seventh-best across all TAPPS divisions this season and cements her status as one of the most consistent sprinters in the state, following a string of sub-12.20 performances throughout the postseason.

Challenging her down the stretch was a breakout freshman, Sienna Walter of Houston Second Baptist, who crossed just behind in 12.18. Walter's debut campaign has been nothing short of phenomenal - her 11.96 from regionals ranks No. 2 among all TAPPS athletes in 2025, and she's positioned herself as the next potential dominant force in the division.

Another freshman who made a big statement was Bree Born from Grapevine Faith Christian, who clocked 12.24 for third and owns a wind-aided mark that ranked among the top 15 statewide. Senior Kirby Page (The Woodlands Christian) took fourth in 12.31, slightly off her season best of 12.04 that ranked third across TAPPS. Rounding out the scoring were Trinity Coates (12.49), Ava Johnsson (12.60), and Olivia Peak (12.64), while Second Baptist's Jordan Warnica closed out in eighth at 12.92.

The 5A final was a blend of veteran polish and rising-star energy, with Thomas bowing out at the top just as her former teammate Aliyah Johnson had done in previous years, while Walter and Born showed that the future of sprinting in this division is already arriving - fast.

2025 TAPPS 6A Girls 100m State Championship Recap

In one of the most anticipated races of the TAPPS state meet, Chayse Madison-Haire, a freshman from St. Dominic Savio Catholic, delivered a star-making performance to win the 6A girls 100-meter title in 11.87 (+1.9 m/s). Not only was her time the fastest across all TAPPS divisions this year, it also solidified her position as the top-ranked TAPPS sprinter in 2025 - an incredible feat for a first-year athlete.

Finishing in second was the seasoned senior Samantha Ennin of Plano John Paul II, who crossed in 12.11. Ennin came in as one of the event favorites, having run a 12.07 earlier in the season, and 11.93 last year en route to the 6A state title. She closed her high school career with a strong silver-medal showing; this was just one of four medals she added on the weekend to her already established mountain high collection of TAPPS state meet medals.

The battle for third was tight, but Michaela Grimes, an 11th grader from Houston St. Agnes, claimed bronze in 12.48, adding to a consistently strong season that saw her run a wind-legal 12.15 at regionals. Livvy Abbink of Frisco Legacy Christian (12.64) and Madison Dodd of Tomball Concordia Lutheran (12.65) rounded out the top five.

Also scoring were Ify Egwuenu (Liberty Christian) - 12.72, Lauren Brown (The Village Houston) -12.76, and Ofure Obasuyi (Dallas Bishop Lynch) -13.03, all of whom contributed valuable team points in a competitive final.

With the fastest time in TAPPS and elite composure under pressure, Madison-Haire has announced herself as a name to watch for years to come. The freshman's victory over several upperclassmen highlighted a changing of the guard - and the beginning of what could be a dominant high school sprint career.
