With a new cycle, there were schools moving up and moving down for the different classes. Sometimes moving up can be an adjustment, but it was not for Peighton Marrero of Strasburg High School, who won the 400m title at 2A last year and now is the 3A title winner in the event this year. She also placed 2nd overall in the 300m hurdles, showing her strength in the longer sprint events.
In the 100m hurdles, Alex Horton of the Kent Denver School, helped pull off the sweep for Kent Denver on the boys' and girls' side, winning the event. Horton was the only girl in 3A who broke 15 seconds multiple times in the season. She raced to a time of 14.85 to win the title.
In track and field, there is a lot of celebration, but there can also be heartbreak and the 3200m was one of the sadder events for some of the girls racing.
