COROS MileSplit50: Mia Maxwell Up to #3 After UIL 6A Titles

With the Outdoor track and field season now heading into the final stretch for the southern states, and the north ramping right up, it's the perfect time to update the COROS MileSplit50 Girls Individual Outdoor Track and Field Rankings. These rankings provide an exclusive look at the nation's top athletes, highlighting those who have made their mark this season.

These past two weeks saw both Texas and Florida contest their State Championships, two of the most competitive in the country. We also saw plenty of individual stars shine in their own respective pockets across the country.

Below, you can find three who deserve separate recognition.

A Closer Look at the COROS MS50 Rankings

2. Dana Wilson (Greensboro Day School, NC)

There aren't many high schoolers left for Dana Wilson to compete with. Collegians may have some trouble, too. Wilson entered the Aggie Classic at North Carolina A&T unattached, looking for fast times and competition to chase. She left with two of the greatest sprint performances of all time.

In the 100m, Wilson sprinted away from the field to a new personal best of 11.02 with a legal wind of +1.2. That's the new National Leader, and moves her up to US #5 All-Time for the event. Coming back in the 200m, Wilson won by nearly a full second, running 22.21. Unfortunately, the wind was barely over the allowable threshold at +2.1m/s. Had it been +2.0m/s, it would have moved Wilson to #2 All-Time, only behind the great Allyson Felix.

For perspective, Wilson would rank #3 for the 100m and #2 for the 200m in the NCAA currently.

Not a bad weekend indeed.

8. Jessica Oji (Livingston, NJ)

The Shot Put star is slowly improving her way up the MileSplit 50, chasing her own US #2 All-Time mark from this Indoor Season, 57-4.5. Oji never came within three feet of that mark after hitting in Indoors, so it's a good sign to see her getting this close this early Outdoors. The National Record is also the State Record, when Alyssa Wilson hit 58-1 in 2017.

10. Destini Smith (Souderton Area, PA)

Call it luck, or call it unlucky. Destini Smith hit 43-2.75 in the Triple Jump on May 3rd, exactly one month after she hit the same mark on April 4th. It's the new National Leader. Unfortunately, neither time was a wind gauge present, so it does not count towards the record books. However, she is still the only athlete over 43-feet this year, and is in good position heading into Nationals.
