At first glance, the boys' 5A title does not look close at all with Cherokee Trail High School holding a hefty lead. However, Eaglecrest High School and Mountain Vista High School may be a lot closer to the top spot than it actually appears. Let's take a closer look.
For Cherokee Trail, they are scoring a lot of points in the jumps area, however, many of those jumps were wind-aided. Nurudeen Diallo got out to an incredible 23-9 this season, but if the wind-aided mark is taken away, Diallo goes down from 1st to 4th with his legal jump of 22-5. The storyline is the same for De Marcues Harris who is currently not ranked with his wind legal jump of 21-3, which is quite a bit behind his ranked jump of 23-0.5. For Jason Lomosi, his legal triple jump mark of 44-1.25 puts him from 4th to out of the top 8 . Nevertheless, this is still a very strong core of jumpers, so they will still be competitive against the rest of 5A, but the competition may be a lot closer than it originally ap...
