Addison Ritzenhein, only a sophomore then, set a meet record in the 3000m in 2024

While the relays often steal the spotlight at the Penn Relays, the individual distance races have delivered some of the most iconic moments of the past decade. The boys' and girls' mile and 3000m races have seen dominant runs, historic wins, and record-breaking performances that still echo around Franklin Field.
In 2022, Gary Martin etched his name into Penn Relays history with a jaw-dropping 4:01 mile-winning by six full seconds in one of the most commanding individual performances the meet has ever seen.
On the girls' side, Addison Ritzenhein shocked the field as just a sophomore, breaking the meet record in the 3000m with a fearless display of front-running talent.
And in 2019, Victoria Starcher became the only girl in meet history to dip under 4:40 in the mile, cementing her place in the record books with a performance that's stood untouched ever since.
From wire-to-wire wins to record-setting runs, these are the best individual distance performances of the decade at Penn.
