A Recap of Friday's High School Races at the FSU Relays

Friday evening's races at the FSU Relays did not disappoint.  In almost perfect weather, there were a few surprises,  a meet record and some outstanding performances.



In the girls' 800m, junior Aurora Bertelsen Del Solar of the IMG Academy won with a time of 2:10.94, demonstrating why she is one of the top middle-distance runners in the state. She split 1:04.47 and 1:06.47.



The boys' race saw a new meet record of 1:49.09 by Joseph Socarras of Belen Jesuit. Socarras went to the lead and led the entire time, running with determination.  Socarras went out in 55.13 and finished in 53.96. Alejandro de Bastos of Pembroke Pines Charter was second, just missing going sub-1:50 with a 1:50.92 and Jake Officer of the Episcopal School of Jacksonville was third in 1:51.69.


The Montverde Academy, showing their sprint power, won both the girls and the boys' 200m races. Sophomore Dasia Reed of the Montverde Academy won the girls 200m in 23.61, moving her from the number 5 ranking in the state to number three. 



Junior Miles Outerbridge of the Montverde Academy won the boys' 200m from lane eight in the next to last heat. Outerbridge was the only runner to dip under 21.00 with a 20.83 and moved into the number two spot in the 200m state rankings.



The girls 3200m saw a gusty battle between the number one ranked girl in the state, senior Margaret Bartlow of North Bay Haven, and Junior Jazlyn Forbes of Oasis. The two exchanged leads the last 800m, with Forbes taking command and pulling away the last 180m for the win in 10:32.05. Bartlow, an FSU commit, was second in 10:33.02. Junior Eliana Black of the Cambridge (Christian) School was third in 10:44.61.


Sophomore Marcelo Mantecon of Belen Jesuit won the boys' 3200 in 8:49.99 and continued to display why he is one of the state's top distance runners. Mantecon led from the gun, leading through the 1600 in 4:28.57 and finishing with a 1:01.08. Parker Adams of the Bolles School was second in 8:56.03, Grady Lenn of De Pere, WI was third with an 8:56.43and senior Gino Palazzolo of Buchholz finished fourth in 8:59.04. Mantecon's time is currently a US #1, a US #4 sophomore all-time, a Florida #6 all-time and a Florida sophomore #1 all-time.
