FRIDAY'S RACES

800m

The final heats in the boys' and girls' 800 meters feature the number 2-ranked girl and the number 1-ranked boy in the state. Aurora Bertelsen Del Solar of IMG Academy headlines the girls' race and Joseph Socarras of Belen Jesuit the boys. Bertelsen comes in with a 2:08.37 seed and Socarras a 1:48.92.

In the girls' race, only one other girl has previously run under 2:10. Keira Merrick ran a 2:09.73 at regionals last year and has a season's best this year of 2:15.45.  This is Bertelsen Del Solar's race to win.

The boys' race is similar. Of the boys with seed times under 1:54, only junior Brayden Berglund of Mandeville in Louisiana and Brandt  Blanchard of Jesuit in New Orleans have run their times this season. Blanchard recently ran a 1:51.95 in winning the Pete Boudreux Invitational. Berglund was 2nd in that race 1:53.89. Socarras soloed his 1:48 earlier this year, and he should be able to handle his challengers.  Others to watch for are Jake Officer of the Episcopal School of Jacksonville and Alejandro de Bastos of Pembroke Pines Charter HS.

200m

In Heat 6 of the girls 200m, watch the middle of the track as two sophomores, Taylor-Nicole Overton of Vero Beach HS and Dasia Reed of Montverdehave run the fastest this season and are the two girls that come in with times under 24.00.  Overton is currently the #1 ranked girl in Florida and will be looking to solidify her position.  Reed is an experienced runner and was 3rd in the 2025 New Balance Nationals Indoor with a 20.30. It's an all-underclassmen heat, with three other Florida top-15 girls in the heat. Tied for #10 with 24.10's are junior Laiana Mcclinton of Largo HS and sophomore Journee Belcher of Rickards.  At #14 is Montverde junior Nakira Hudson.

Heat 5 of the boys' race features three of Florida's top 10 ranked runners. Kabran Paul of Lincoln HS is ranked #7 with a 21.30. Paul's 21.30 came last week at the 26th Annual Chiles Capital City Track & Field Classic. He won the 100 in  10.44. Junior Owen Kaye of Raines HS is ranked #9 with a 21.32 that he ran in a 2nd-place finish at Bob Hayes. Leon Sullivan Jr. of Miami Norland HS is ranked #10 with a 21.34.

Those three, however, need to watch for Junior Braylen Bennett of American Heritage. Bennett has only run the 200 once this season (21.32), but he is tied for Florida #3 in the 100, with a 10.41. He has a PR of 21.07 in the 200.

3200m

The FSU Relays are known for their distance races, and this year is no exception.  Both the seeded heats of the boys' and girls' races should be fast.

Heat 3 of the girls' race features the number #1 ranked girl in the state, senior Margaret Bartlow of North Bay Haven. The FSU commit was the 2A State XC champion last fall and has run 10:23.68 this season in the 3200. Joining Bartlow is the #7 ranked girl, junior Jazlyn Forbes of Oasis HS. 10:53.38 and is coming off a win last weekend with a 4:59.03 win in the Mile at the Guy Thomas Memorial Classic.  Fort Myers HS senior Masha Dorofeev, the 3A State XC champion, is ranked #9 in the state  with a 10:56.80. Several other girls, all with seed times under 11:00 are: senior Daisy Ross of Ponte Vedra, junior Eliana Black of the Cambridge (Christian) School, junior Addison Elwell of Viera HS, junior Jaimee Tutton of the Pensacola Christian Academy, senior Estella Bruneau of Bolles, ninth grader, Stella Krueger of the Episcopal School of Jacksonville and junior Rhyen Foley of East Ridge HS.

Heat 5 of the Boys 3200 features the number 1 ranked boy in the state in the 3200, Marcelo Mantecon of Belen Jesuit and it is his race to win. Mantecon comes in with an 8:55.72.  Last weekend, he was the Nike Indoor National 5000m Champion with a 14:14.38. Mantecon has a 3200m PR of 8:50.02 that he ran last spring at the Arcadia Invitational as a freshman. The number two seed is junior Grady Lenn of De Pere, De Pere, WI. Lenn ran a 9:00.30 last spring at the Arcadia Invitational. Three other boys come in with seed times under 9:10.  The number 2 ranked Florida boy, Gino Palazzolo of Buchholz, has run 9:05.16 this season, #3 ranked Parker Adams of Bolles HS has run 9:05.93, and #4 ranked Kenan Willard of Vero Beach has run 9:08.05.
