Alumni Report: Goetz, Gunnell Continue Prep for Hepathlon

Ava Goetz and Julia Gunnell were two of Arkansas' best athletes in recent years and now, they're competing at the next level for two of the countries best multi-discipline programs in the country.

Gunnell graduated from Fayetteville in 2023 and won the 6A state championship in the 300m hurdles in 2021. The former Bulldog is just a sophomore at the University of Kentucky and already ranks 6th all-time in the pentathlon.

Goetz also graduated from Fayetteville, in 2024, and competes for Colorado University. Goetz, a 2-time state champion, went on to finish 2nd at Nike Indoor Nationals in the penthalon last winter and is eager to build on her strong indoor season.
