Weekend Rewind: National Records, State Championships & More

Quick Hits - More Top Performances

---

Juan Gonzalez, Fremont (Neb.): In his third race of the indoor season, the future Oregon Duck notched a lifetime best in the 1600m, running 4:04.63 at the Northwest Missouri Bearcat Youth/Open Indoor Meet #4. Gonzalez dropped the field to win by five seconds, enough for his first win of the season. The multiple-time state champion is the fastest in state history in both indoors and outdoors, but his performance over the weekend is the fastest ever by a Nebraskan high schooler.

Greta Hammer, Needham (Ma.): In her first indoor season, the junior entered unprecedented territory, running 10:21.48 over two miles at the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Meet of Champions. Hammer led four other girls under 11:00, crossing the line 12 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Hammer is now the second-fastest junior in state history, and is the second-fastest in the Class of 2026 this year. For the speedy junior, this is her second MIAA Meet of Champions title, and first on the track.

Anna Bockius, Padua Academy (De.): At the DIAA State Indoor Track and Field ChampionshipsBockius ran a U.S. #11 time in the 1600m, finishing with a time of 4:50.19. She also won the 800m title with a time of 2:12.84 and finished 3rd in the 3200m with a time of 11:05.93.

Chase Gilbert, Old Lyme (Conn.): As Gilbert stepped up to the line this weekend, she had never run quicker than 4:50, and still hadn't broken 5:00 this indoor season in the 1600m. Neither stat bothered the junior as she clocked a big PB of 4:44.68 to win the title at the CIAC State Open Girls Indoor T&F Championship. Winning by 13 seconds, Gilbert not only broke the Connecticut state record, but also became the third-fastest junior in high school history, and the fastest since 2019.

Nick Altheimer, Kitsap Fliers Track (Wash.): The uncommitted senior has all of the momentum heading into the outdoor season after running a pair of elite times at the STCU West Coast Championships. Altheimer won the 60m prelim in 6.64, the first sub-6.65 performance in the country this season. Over 200m, the senior won by a mere hundredth of a second, running 21.39, the 17th-fastest time this season. Altheimer is tied for No. 2 all-time in state history in the 60m, and outright No. 2 in the 200m.

Kennedi Burks, Barbe (La.): Over the weekend, the LSU-bound sprinter stayed unbeaten, broke a state record, and won a state title all in less than a minute. At the LHSAA State Indoor Championships, Burks broke 55 seconds in the 400m for the first time in her indoor career, running 54.36 to win by over a second. Not only is she the new indoor state record holder, but now she owns both the indoor and outdoor state records in the event, and is the first Louisianan to run sub-55 indoors.

Elijah Harris, Wester. Central (Ohio): The seventh time's a charm, right? At the Ashland HS High-Performance Invite, Harris won his seventh-straight high jump competition but cleared 7-0 for the first time. Harris comfortably took home the victory, winning by seven inches. Harris is the second Ohioan to clear 7-0 indoors, trailing only Erik Kynard, who won gold at the London 2012 Olympics. Harris is the 17th high school junior to jump 7-0 or better and ranks No. 3 in the nation this winter.

Hudson Doll, Ann Arbor TC (Mich.): Doll competing at the LAB Midwest Showcase, finished 7th in the 3200m with a new PR of 9:38.37. Only an eighth-grader, Doll now ranks 9th all-time for 8th-grade boys in the indoor 3200m. He is one of only 26 boys to accomplish a sub 10 minute 3200m as an eighth-grader.
