Hedengren Continues Her Record-Breaking Senior Season
---
Altitude. A wooden indoor track. A meet not known for record-breaking times. None of it seemed to matter to Jane Hedengren.
The Timpview senior turned in one of the most remarkable high school distance performances in history on Saturday at the Simplot Games, running 9:37.50 for 3,200 meters-obliterating the meet record by 25 seconds and pushing the boundaries of what's possible at 4,560 feet. Her time of 9:37.50 converts to a 9:40.85 2-mile time.
No high school girl had ever broken 10 minutes in the event at Simplot. Hedengren didn't just dip under that mark-she left it in the dust. Splitting 4:46 through 1,600 meters and hitting 3,000 meters right around nine minutes, she never wavered. By the finish, she had clocked a time that, with altitude adjustments, is estimated to be worth around 9:25 at sea level.
That puts her in historic territory. Her performance, even without adjustments, is faster than the outdoor national high school 2-mile record of 9:41.76 set last year. Indoors, it's just off Mary Cain's all-time best of 9:38.68, set in 2013 against professional competition.
All-Time Fastest Girls Indoor 2-Mile Times (With Conversions)
Rank | Runner | Time | Year |
1 | 9:38.68 | 2013 | |

What's next? Hedengren isn't slowing down anytime soon. With bigger goals on the horizon, she's eager to test herself against tougher competition and push her limits even further. Whether it's sharpening her speed or extending her range, she's proving that no stage is too big and no record is out of reach.
