Jackson Cantwell, Nixa (Mo.): The best thrower in the country opened up his indoor campaign over the weekend at the Northwest Missouri Bearcat Youth/Open Indoor Meet, heaving the shot put 71-09.75, the top mark in the country this season by over six feet. Cantwell also shattered the Missouri indoor record by over seven feet and is already No. 6 in the national indoor record books. Cantwell is just under a foot away from becoming the top junior in high school history.
Zariel Macchia, William Floyd (N.Y.): Before she takes her talents to Provo to join the powerhouse BYU program, Macchia has one more track season at the high school level. While donning the black and gold Nike Elite kit, Macchia finished third in the 1000m at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational. The senior ran 2:44.84, the ninth-fastest time in high school history and second in state history. She's now the U.S. No. 1 in the event and the second girl under 2:45 this season.
Ben Crane, New Trier (Ill.): The Illinois senior made his season debut for the 3200m at the Lakes Clash at the Coliseum where he ran a U.S. #4 time in the 3200m with a time of 9:00.01. This was his third fastest 3200m or 2-mile time ever for either event and an Illinois #1 time.
Kya Crooke, Heritage Christian (Ind.): The future Arizona Wildcat made the trip down to Louisville for the KTCCCA President's Day Weekend Invite, where she competed in the 55m and high jump, finishing third and first, respectively. Crooke clocked 7.22 in her third-place finish, moving up to No. 2 time in Indiana this season. Crooke also cleared 5-10 in the high jump, moving her into a tie for the top mark in the country. She sits an inch shy of her lifetime best, which she set last May at the IHSAA State Meet.
Sydney Sutton, Bullis School (Md.): In what is already a stellar season for the Bullis senior, Sutton reached another level at the YSU High School Meet where she won both the 200m and 400m titles. In the 200m, Sutton set a new indoor PR with a time of 23.63 which ranks 9th nationally this season. In the 400m, she finished with a time of 53.88 for a U.S. #3 time in the event this season.
