The CIRCUIT Meet is Back with Elite Times in NYC
---
CIRCUIT - NYC delivered a weekend of electrifying performances, headlined by a historic girls' 800-meter showdown that rewrote the record books. Emmry Ross stole the show with her 2:03.95 victory, setting a new U.S. #1 mark for the season and moving to #8 all-time indoors, surpassing the legendary Athing Mu. The race as a whole saw remarkable depth, with all eight finishers securing top-90 all-time performances and the top seven now holding the U.S. #1-7 rankings for 2024.
On the boys' side, Caleb Winders of Bloomington North in Indiana clocked 1:49.90 in the 800m, making him just the second prep athlete this season to dip under 1:50 indoors. His performance ranks U.S. #2 this season and places him among an exclusive group of only 14 high school runners to achieve this milestone indoors. Following closely behind, Tsedeke Jakovics ran 1:50.67 for U.S. #5, Cole Boone finished in 1:51.11 for U.S. #7, and Andrew Thornton-Sherman posted a 1:52.14 for U.S. #10, further solidifying the depth of this year's field.
In the distance events, Alex Fisher made a statement with a dominant victory in the 3000m, crossing the line in 8:23.47. Though just shy of his personal best of 8:22.53, which already ranks U.S. #4 this season, his win showcased his consistency at the top level. Christian Brothers Academy teammates Ryan Schmitt and Luke Hnatt battled for second and third, clocking 8:29.16 and 8:29.20, respectively, placing them at U.S. #17 and #18 for 2024. Fisher wasn't done, adding a victory in the 2-mile with the first sub-9-minute performance of his career. His 8:58.23 win, by over five seconds, ranks U.S. #4 this season.
Elise Cooper turned heads in the sprints, securing wins in both the 60m and 200m. She clocked 7.60 in the 60m, her second-fastest time this indoor season, marking her first win in the event this year. In the 200m, she blazed to a 23.60 finish, which ranks as the fifth-fastest time in the country this season.
With national championship meets on the horizon, the performances from The CIRCUIT - NYC set the stage for an intense final stretch of the indoor season, as several of the country's top athletes continue their push toward history.
